Luscious Leopard artwork - Courage My Love Clothing

Method: Spray paint and stencils

Artist: Flox

Artist Quote

I was fortunate enough to spend three months in Taipei, Taiwan where I immersed myself in a new culture, lifestyle and way of life. Drawing from the intensity and the beauty I was surrounded by, I worked solidly to create a new body of work, inspired by the nations’ rich diversity of native flora and fauna. This piece featuring Taiwan’s endemic Clouded Leopard, which is now sadly extinct, exists on the streets of Taipei. My intention was to create a series of these public artworks within Taipei’s urban landscapes, to act as a contrast but also as a gentle reminder of how precious our natural environment is. Seen here, as artwork for Courage My Love, the piece is reinvented as a statement for the wearer, paying homage to broader environmental issues. The wearer will also “wow” with the confidence and sass of a cat.

From the Heart

Persephone Singfield, Heart Director of Courage My Love says this about Luscious Leopard: I was visiting a street art exhibition when I saw a large installation by Flox. I was really taken by the fauna and flora in her street art. Such delicate beauty in this medium. I remember my first meeting with Flox in her studio. I had brought with me a bunch of artworks and Legskin Tights and was showing her how an oil painting came to exist as a print on clothing. Lots of people can’t appreciate the amount of work that goes into creating something that is not just a repeating pattern, but actually designed specifically to sit on the clothing the way that it does. Flox was fascinated by our attention to detail and wanted to get started right away. Being such a prolific artist her greatest challenge was what concept to move forward with. I asked her what she was most excited about and her response was the work she had completed on her artist residency in Taiwan. We worked together to balance the colourful orchids and clouded leopard with a complimentary pattern. I suggested bringing more leopard print into the design and Flox was immediately inspired to create a separate artwork for the entire second leg on the Legskin Tights. The end result is indeed sassy!
