Design Story Tribal

The story of Courage My Love clothing’s Tribal design is one of bridging to worlds and creating art from it. In her early 20’s, Persephone Singfield, founder and director of Courage My Love, spent several months in northern Canada. She lived with an Innu tribe in Goose Bay, Labrador. While there, Persephone stayed with a family from whom she learned a valuable lesson, “GIVE BEFORE YOU KEEP”. This was evident after the family harvested 90 caribous from a hunt and got to keep four of it after making sure that everyone else in the village had received what they needed. “Give before you keep”…such precious words to live by!

Having lived with the Innu tribe, Persephone began imagining a tribe of her own. She particularly focused on what her tribe would wear. Her time in northern Canada allowed her to expand her crafting skills by learning to work on moccasins and bags with the sinew and hides of the caribou and creating jewelry from the quills of a porcupine. This experience allowed her to take natural objects from her different locations like shells, feathers, and woven fibre and use modern technology to create amazing things.

Always striving to promote connection with nature, Persephone’s Tribal design for Courage My Love is a reflection of nature full of texture and color and her immersion to tribal living.
